After all the kerfuffle of numerous rumours of the True Detective casting, Colin Farrell finally confirmed the news yesterday that he would be joining the series…but it still left that second protagonist lead up for grabs. Luckily for us, HBO have decided to put us all out of our misery and confirm that Vince Vaughn will be joining the cast too.
The official synopsis has also been revealed, with season two following three police officers and a career criminal who navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder. Vaughn will take on the role of the career criminal named Frank Semyon, whose move into legitimate enterprise is jeopardized when his business partner is killed. Farrell will take on the role of Ray Velcoro, a rogue detective who has to question his allegiance between a corrupt police department and a mobster who owns him.
Production is set to start soon in California, with Justin Lin (FAST & FURIOUS, Community) set to direct the first two episodes.
HBO’s confirmation should really put to rest all of the rumours we’ve had over the last few months, with everybody from Taylor Kitsch to Elisabeth Moss rumoured for the series…but nope – we now see that True Detective will have four main roles this season, so the speculation is not over yet!
