Later on this year, geeks around the globe have four DC Comics television shows to look forward to in the form of Arrow, The Flash, Gotham and Constantine (and that’s not even including Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Agent Carter). However, following the news that DC Entertainment are looking to add a live action Teen Titans to their line-up, the previously-rumoured Supergirl show has now received a full series order!
The Kryptonian cousin of everyone’s favourite boyscout will be headed over to CBS this time next year, which will round out television screens as the only American broadcast network without a superhero series on the air. Supergirl will be written and produced by Greg Berlanti (Arrow, GREEN LANTERN) and Ali Adler (Chuck, Glee), who will develop the series alongside DC Entertainment chief Geoff Johns. This is certainly promising news for audiences and comic fans who continue to enjoy the golden age of science fiction and superheroes that we are currently living through. It is also great to hear that their will be a rise in female-lead superhero dramas in the near future, with Supergirl, Wonder Woman and possibly even Spider-Woman all destined to dominate film and television screens in the next few years.
Although not much is known about Supergirl and its full series order at CBS, the deal with Warner Bros is said to ‘eclipse the series commitment DC Batman drama Gotham got at Fox last fall’. What this could mean for the upcoming show is currently unknown, however it does raise questions of Superman’s involvement and what capacity his presence will be felt in (if any). You can read a short synopsis for Supergirl below, which does seem to hint that the Man of Steel will at least be referenced. Check it out:
‘Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be’.
Either way, this is yet another exciting comic book adaptation in development, which should also (hopefully) strengthen the brand by diversifying the genre with fresh and original material.

If your gonna write an article at least get your facts straight and know what your talking about… Supergirl has not received a full series order…. Why would CBS commit to a full SERIES order without seeing the ratings….. And first of all the show hasn’t even been greenlit to go to series… CBS outbid the other networks and placed a pilot order with a SERIES COMMITMENT.. That doesn’t me the show has been picked up to series.. It just means that they’ll film the pilot and if CBS doesn’t pick it up to series then they have to pay a penalty… And you say full series pick up and on network tv for non summer dramas a full season is 20-24 episodes so you not even close because if the show does get picked up which it more than likely will, then they’ll pick it up for 13 episode with a back 9 option…
