The DC television universe is on a roll recently with the continued success of Arrow and the huge amount of hype surrounding freshly-premiered shows such as Gotham and The Flash. Although the former is aired on a separate network and works as crime/prequel series, Gotham compliments its DC-cousins by targeting a different demographic with a slightly different genre. The same goes for NBC’s Constantine and even the CW’s Arrow spin-off The Flash, which is decidedly lighter and more Science Fiction-based than its predecessor.
If Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment continue to diversify their small screen catalogue of shows, then they may have found a way to finally combat Marvel and their seemingly unstoppable reign of success. Although the upcoming Supergirl and Titans television series’ look set to differentiate themselves yet again, it seems that crossover’s between networks is not out of the realms of possibility. According to CW president Mark Pedowitz, discussions are currently taking to place to possibly include characters from TNT’s Titans in Arrow and/or The Flash, before launching the aforementioned series as an interconnecting spin-off of sorts. You can check out the quote from Pedowitz below:
‘What you’ll see embedded in Flash and Arrow is that we’ll have the ability to test characters out. Is there room to grow them into the next show? I cannot tell you yet. There are discussions going on’.
Could this mean that Nightwing will appear on Arrow before starring in his own series? This would be the same technique used last year when Barry Allen was introduced in the show before receiving his own Flash spin-off a year later. It would also give Vampire Diaries star Steven McQueen his wish to play Batman’s former sidekick on the small screen, as he had been teasing frequently this time last year. While the fact that Titans is planned to air on a separate network could make this crossover difficult, it should be known that TNT is actually a sister network to The CW and is therefore also housed under the same Time Warner umbrella. It would be fantastic to see the world of Arrow/The Flash expanded once again to incorporate the upcoming Teen Titans adaptation (or any other DC-related shows), as it would further strengthen the brand in an ingenious and plausible way.
