The Possibilities Are Endless

Synopsis: Imagine your mind has been wiped: memories, knowledge, experiences, language – every word you ever spoke, has vanished. If eventually you found the words, what would you say? For Edwyn Collins, ‘The Possibilities Are Endless’.

Music, hope and love are at the forefront of the incredible journey unfurled in the fleeting 83 minutes that make up THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS.

Scottish musician, producer and record-label owner Edwyn Collins (go on, we’ll give you a minute to google him. Are you now humming “Girl Like You”? Great.) experienced a life-altering injury in 2005 when, at the age of 45, he suffered two major cerebral haemorrhages which left him unable to walk, read or speak. Through voice-over, intense imagery and some partial re-enactments, James Hall and Edward Lovelace bring us Collins’ story since the incident and follow him as he once again begins making music and performing to an audience. We discover just what a achievement this is as Collins and his wife, Grace Maxwell, recount the days and months that followed and the incredible highs and lows the pair have embraced.

Calling upon stylisation that will appeal to all the senses, the filmmakers have achieved an aesthetically complex but ultimately moving study of Collins as he rediscovers his talent and is able to look back at how he has got to this remarkable place.

This isn’t the directors first foray into music biography documentary film making; in 2010 they directed US DIY music scene doc WEREWOLVES ACROSS AMERICA. In addition, the pair were originally slated to direct the 2012 movie KATY PERRY: PART OF ME but the executives decided to change direction of the film and they were bumped to executive producers. Don’t let that finished product fool you; THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS is an in-depth, understated and visceral portrait of recovery and hope.

[usr=4] THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS is released in UK cinemas on November 7th.
