‘Night Of The Living Dead’ Prequel Needs Your Brains!

Night Of The Living Dead

Although George A Romero’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD gave rise to a variety of sequels (as well as a legacy of zombie movies) it never answered the key question of where all those shambling arm-munchers came from in the first place. Now that is set to be answered by Romero’s son, G.Cameron, who is looking to make an origins story. The project, which has been launched via crowdfunding platform Indiegogo, is seeking money for pre-production and will tell the period-set tale of warped military science that led to those first corpses sprouting from the earth.

G. Cameron Romero explains his vision for the movie:

I feel carrying on my dad’s legacy is something that I not only want to do, but it’s something I HAVE to do because I, like all my dad’s fans, was raised on his creation… I want to take back the zombie genre in the name of the legacy that my father created almost 50 years ago. I want to tell the origin story of the modern zombie, in a way that my father wasn’t able to do so back in 1968.

The senior Romero is on board as co-producer via Romero Pictures. As the 1968 original was very much an independent production, it’s fitting that the mythology is being brought full circle in a contemporary fashion. Whether the prequel will add anything to the mix remains to be seen.

The campaign to get the rotting ball of flesh rolling lasts for thirty days. More details here.
