THE LEGO MOVIE’s writers and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have officially signed on the dotted line to write the sequel to this February’s hit animated movie. The duo, who also brought us the superb 21 JUMP STREET and 22 JUMP STREET will get to work on the film sometime in the near future ahead of a planned release ‘sometime after 2017.’
There are a few LEGO themed movies in the works, starting with NINJAGO, which is due in 2016, and a stand-alone LEGO Batman movie, which is slated for 2017. My guess is that Warner Bros. will pencil in an official sequel to THE LEGO Movie sometime in 2018, giving us a LEGO movie a year starting the year after next.
THE LEGO MOVIE, which was released to critical and commercial acclaim back in February, is one of the year’s biggest hits, raking in a whopping $468 million at the worldwide box office earlier this year on a budget of just $60 million; which is, bloody remarkable.
