More highly anticipated than the rodent guest speaker at a cat convention, broadcaster AMC have revealed the premiere date for Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul. February 8th will see Bob Odenkirk’s super-slippery Saul Goodman ply his trade at the wrong end of the justice spectrum. Viewers only have to wait 24 hours for the next episode before the show sets out its stall on Monday nights. But is Saul going to be Saul, or Jimmy McGill, the previous identity shown in publicity material? Charlie Collier (AMC President) has revealed how it’s going to play out:
We’re going to introduce Jimmy McGill to the world. Known to Breaking Bad fans as Saul Goodman, viewers will soon discover Saul wasn’t always Albuquerque’s top criminal (criminal) lawyer.
While some element of flashing back and forth has been mentioned, this is confirmation the prequel is going to go right back to Goodman’s beginnings. Presumably we’ll follow his ascent up Mount Questionable in the same way we did with Walter White. Bryan Cranston is reportedly in the frame to appear at some point. The cast includes the returning Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut alongside newcomers Rhea Seehorn, Michael Mando, Julie Ann Emery and no less than SPINAL TAP’s Michael McKean as a legal rival. BB creator Vince Gilligan and writer Peter Gould should hopefully keep things on an even keel.
The series apparently heads to Netflix after hitting the US. Below is the highly promising new teaser:
