Although upon hearing the title, I didn’t expect A LITTLE CHAOS to be harking back to the Merchant Ivory genre with Alan Rickman directing but interestingly, it feels somewhat refreshing in days of constant big-screen explosions and warring superheroes. It’s also important not to forget of the differing audiences across the board especially after the low-key success of MR TURNER and MY OLD LADY.
This isn’t to say the style doesn’t cover all audiences, especially with a good premise and great cast that includes Kate Winslet, Matthias Schoenaerts, Alan Rickman and more. Focusing around the life of Madame Sabine De Barra (Kate Winslet), she’s an unlikely candidate for a landscape architect of the still?to-be-completed Palace of Versailles. She has little time for the classical, ordered designs of the man who hires her, the famous architect Le Nôtre (Matthias Schoenaerts). However, as she works, she finds herself drawn to the enigmatic Le Nôtre and is forced to negotiate the perilous rivalries of the court of King Louis XIV (Alan Rickman)…
