Ray Donovan has to be one of my favourite shows on TV at the moment. The unrelenting, tense action and brilliant storylines in a show headed by the rather watchable Liev Schreiber, makes it unmissale every week. Production on season three is just about to get underway in Los Angeles, and news reaches us this morning that one of Britain’s great character actors has joined the cast.
Ian McShane, who has appeared in the likes of HERCULES, SEXY BEAST, CUBAN FURY and the legendary TV series Deadwood, which pretty much catapulted him to Hollywood notoriety, will play a billionaire movie producer in the next season who hires Schreiber’s Donovan to help him get out of a bit of a pickle.
Interestingly, McShane will reunite with fellow Deadwood alumni Paula Malcomson. Malcomson played the role of Trixie in the HBO series, opposite McShane’s villainous Al Swearengen.
Shooting on season three of Ray Donovan kicks off in LA on Monday (26th January).
Set in the sprawling mecca of the rich and famous, “Ray Donovan” stars two-time Golden Globe nominee Liev Schreiber as L.A.’s best professional fixer, the man called in to make the city’s celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls’ most complicated and combustible situations go away. In season two of this powerful drama, Ray’s life erupted when the FBI, his father Mickey (Jon Voight, in his Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe-winning role), and his own family slip out of his control, testing his roles as protector, provider and patriarch like never before. The cast also includes Paula Malcomson, Eddie Marsan, Dash Mihok, Steven Bauer, Katherine Moennig, Pooch Hall, Kerris Dorsey and Devon Bagby. “Ray Donovan” was created by Ann Biderman and is executive produced by Mark Gordon, Bryan Zuriff and David Hollander.
The new series will be screened this summer.
