With so many exciting films slated for release this year, it’s not surprising that a stereotypical, banal American high school teen comedy will join the mix this spring. Or is it?
With a CLUELESS-style format, THE DUFF centres on high school senior Bianca Piper (Mae Whitman) who inadvertently discovers that the student body know her as ‘The DUFF’ a.k.a the Designated Ugly Fat Friend to her prettier, more popular friends. Desperate to rid herself of the awful moniker, Bianca enlists the help of (of course) cocky, yet charming jock Wesley, to help her reinvent herself and overthrow the school’s mean girl Madison (played by BLENDED star Bella Thorne) who coined the nickname.
Directed by Ari Sandel, the film also stars Allison Janney, THE FLASH star Robbie Amell, and the comically entertaining Ken Jeong. Check out the official trailer and poster artwork below:
THE DUFF opens in US cinemas on February 20 and on April 10 in the UK.
