They were the self-billed ‘world’s most dangerous group’ back in the late 1980s-early 1990s. NWA took the hip-hop scene by storm and sold millions of records around the world. The group was the launch pad for future music legends like Dr. Dre (who went on to co-create his ‘Beats’ empire, and make himself a couple of billionaire in the process), and Ice Cube, who went on to star in films like RIDE ALONG.
STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON is the film about the rise of this pioneering rap group, and stars O’Shea Jackson as Cube, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E, Aldis Hodge as MC Ren, Neil Brown, Jr. as DJ Yella and one Paul Giamatti as Jerry Heller, their manager. F. Gary Gray directs.
“In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A, Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.”
The first trailer debuted during last night Grammy Awards Stateside, which you can see below (along with the poster). STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON hits on the 14th August, 2015 in the UK.
