I KILL GIANTS, the cult classic graphic novel from Joe Kelly, has finally landed a director. That director will be first timer, Anders Walter. Walter has impressed with his shorts (as in short films, not an item of clothing), especially HELIUM which won an Oscar for Best Live Action Short. Judging by such pieces he will be the perfect fit for a delightful and heartfelt tale in which a young girl, Barbara Thorson, must battle monsters in her mind, which just so happen to reflect her real life troubles.
Chris Columbus, currently prepping the release of his own PIXELS, will produce with his 1492/Ocean Blue Entertainment, along with Treehouse, Man Of Action Entertainment, and XYZ Films. Speaking for his excitement for the project, Columbus says:
Joe Kelly has written a deeply insightful story about a child using fantasy to navigate through a harsh reality, and I am excited and proud to finally be able to bring this wonderful material to the screen.
Meanwhile, Joe Kelly, writer of the original graphic novel that was awarded the International Manga Award by the Japanese Foreign Minstry, has also spoken of his enthusiasm for the talent involved:
I’m overwhelmed by the enthusiasm, vision and sheer talent of the team we’ve assembled. Chris and Anders understand the book on an instinctive level and will translate it into a hell of a film. I could not be happier.
With casting now under way, the film will begin production later this year.
