Ever since 2011’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter has become a hugely prominent face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After appearing in both CAPTAIN AMERICA movies, a ‘Marvel One-Shot’ short film, and her own television series, the character is easily one of the more popular addition’s to the overall franchise.
However, Atwell’s reign as Steve Rogers’ former flame doesn’t look like it’s up just yet. Thankfully, the beautiful British actress already has two more appearences lined up this year in both AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and ANT-MAN. Although Joss Whedon has openly confirmed that Atwell will make some sort of cameo appearence in his upcoming mega-sequel, her role in ANT-MAN has been kept firmly under wraps.
Now, Atwell has briefly spoken about her ANT-MAN cameo, confirming suspicions that she would appear in flashback sequence:
‘She crosses over, but it’s more of a cameo. It’s not a flashback — well, it is, but not to the point where it’s 1946’.
Atwell’s hopes for a currently-hypothetical second season of Agent Carter were also discussed:
‘I would like one of two things — I’d really like to explore her background of where she’s come from, what her family was like, what created this exceptionally strong and unique woman, and who it was in her life that told her she could be just as good — or better — as the guys. Secondly, I’d like to go a few years in the future, to see how she tackles being a mother and a wife, as well as being kick-ass in the office’.
It had long been assumed that Carter would appear in a (possibly) sixties-set flashback sequence for ANT-MAN. But, it is great to finally have official confirmation of her appearence, which is almost-certainly alongside John Slattery’s elder Howard Stark. A scene depicting Hank Pym’s attempted S.H.I.E.L.D. recruitment, would be a beautiful piece of continuity for the already intricately-woven MCU. On top of that, this will be a great way to advertise ANT-MAN as a film firmly associated with the rest of Marvel’s weird and wonderful superheroes.
