TWILIGHT gave the world a lot. Don’t believe me? Well without the TWILIGHT film franchise we wouldn’t have a HUNGER GAMES franchise, meaning we might not know who Jennifer Lawrence is. We also wouldn’t have the brilliant vampire teen TV series The Vampire Diaries. Based on a series of novels by author L.J Smith the show chronicles the adventures of Elena Gilbert and her friends who reside in Mystic Falls; a town overrun with vampires, witches, werewolves and more. The show had a fairly weak first series, it’s tone too TWILIGHT but thankfully since the second series it’s gone from strength to strength. It even got its own spin-off series The Originals which was recently granted a third season. Given the shows continued success and popularity it may come as a shock to some viewers as leading lady Nina Dobrev has announced that the current series is her last.
Taking to her Instagram account the young actress revealed that the sixth season of the hit show is her swan song. Read Dobrev’s touching goodbye below:
Dobrev had a very public relationship with her co-star Ian Solmerhalder who has recently got engaged to TWILIGHT actress Nikki Reed. I’m sure they’ll be many that blame this new relationship for her departure however Dobrev has been steadily building up her film career in her downtime from the show and now seems like the perfect moment for her to strike out on her own.
So what do you make of these events? Are you happy or sad that Elena is leaving? Can the show survive without her? Most importantly how do you think Elena will make her exit?
