With excitement for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON reaching new-found heights, it’s easy to forget that Marvel have another film on the horizon. Keen to remind everyone about the lesser-known ANT-MAN, the studio have treated us to the first full-length trailer and it certainly packs a punch.
ANT-MAN focuses on former thief Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) as he attempts to atone for a chequered past by stealing potentially dangerous technology from a dubious character. He’ll do this with the help of his mentor Dr Hank Pym’s (Michael Douglas) Ant-Man technology, allowing him to shrink in size but grow in strength. Oh and control ants, obviously.
It has provided Marvel with one of their biggest challenges yet, following in the footsteps of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY by attempting to take a less-famous character and turn it into a big-budget movie without losing any of its charm or sense of humour.
With an unheroic sounding title and unusual set of abilities, not to mention the lack of household names like Captain America or Iron Man, the decision to bring ANT-MAN to the silver screen was a bold one. However if this trailer is anything to go by, ANT-MAN could be gearing up to be another surprise hit for Marvel, with some great action set pieces offset with some oddball humour.
ANT-MAN is due for release on 17th July 2015.
