Anyone who knows me for more than a couple of days will come to find that I am a big fan of the two TERMINATOR films. That’s right, the two TERMINATOR films. For me the series ended the same time that Linda Hamilton and James Cameron left, TERMINATOR SALVATION was a muddled mess and don’t get me started on the third outing (seriously we’d be here forever). I’ve obviously been very dubious about the latest attempt to flog money from a dead franchise and it’s not looking good.
A while back we were shown a first trailer and that got my spider senses tingling, and not in the good way. Now a second trailer has arrived and I’m sorry to say TERMINATOR fans it seems that our fond memories are the real target of termination. Watch it below (if you must) and be warned it’s spoiler heavy.
It seems that TERMINATOR GENISYS has decided to stick closely to the tone and humour of the third film (why) and the genetic bending of the fourth film (again why?). They have then plonked everyone’s favourite characters from the first two films into this over-the-top, and overly complex action centric plot. The trailer also seems to point to a new big bad (and yet another terminator) into the mix, spinning the franchise on its head by having saviour John Conner switch sides.
The more I see from this film the more unhappy I am. Given how much footage and how many plot points are revealed in this new promo it seems that the studio may be trying to save us the ticket money, condensing the film down to just two minutes (which were a struggle enough to endure).
That all being said I will see be giving it a watch come opening weekend as I don’t like speaking ill of a film that I have not experienced. Sadly I’m not sure it’s going to able to change my first impressions, only time will tell.
