Cavill: ‘Batman V Superman’ Not Man Of Steel Sequel

We’ve all been going a bit batty (I used that term because this is a news story about Batman, and I’m damn funny) about the BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE teaser trailer. It’s one of those films where almost everybody has an opinion. Is it too soon to reboot Batman? Was MAN OF STEEL really worthy of a sequel? Can Affleck be trusted with a superhero again? There’s been so much hullabaloo, that it’s easy to forget that this is not one of this summer’s – or even this year’s – releases.

But with AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON all over the shop, why not allow some other heroes to capitalise on the momentum? Well, Henry Cavill, also known as Superman, has dropped a piece of news regarding BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, by saying it’s more of a Batman and Justice League set-up movie, than it is a MAN OF STEEL sequel:

I wouldn’t call this a Superman sequel. This is Batman vs. Superman so it’s a separate entity altogether. It’s introducing the Batman character and expanding upon the universe which was kicked off by Man of Steel…. Everything could change in the editing room, but as it stands it’s definitely an introduction to the character and ultimately an introduction to Justice League.

So there you have it. Don’t expect Supes to completely dominate the screen. It isn’t all that surprising really as it’s Batman who is still the clear star of the silver screen. Reception to MAN OF STEEL was also mixed, although it look as though the darker edge is continuing and being worked in to the plot. With WONDER WOMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE movies on the way, you can expect DC to do things a little backwards compared to Marvel, as they dump a lot of heroes into one film before giving them their standalones.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is released on 25th March 2016.

His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
