It’s funny how no one can compliment anything about WB/DC without taking a shot at Marvel. #1 – WB, Fox and Sony are all trying to copy Marvel, to some degree. #2 – I don’t think Marvel cares what anyone else is doing….they are leaders in this field, not followers….they don’t need to worry about distinguishing themselves from anyone else….they just make good movies. #3 – the dark, gritty thing works easily for Batman and not so much for most of the other DC characters…you can’t just turn everyone into Batman…..Superman, Flash, Hal Jordan, etc. are not supposed to be “dark” characters and Man of Steel exposed this problem….and “realistic” superheroes are easy to do when it’s Batman who has no superpowers, but most of the rest have pretty incredible powers…it remains to be seen if just copying the Nolan/Dark Knight formula for 15 movies will work.

I think that DC have to go a different route to the fluffy, glossy Marvel one. Marvel have to abide by ‘some’ of the family Disney values too, while DC have not such constraints. They can afford to be darker, but they HAVE to be different. Whether they will be as successful remains to be seen.
