The writers of the fan favourite ZOMBIELAND and the now-shooting DEADPOOL are to tackle something completely different for their next project. Duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will pen a movie that revolves around the Coca-Cola launch of ‘New Coke’ in the 1980s.

The planned project will revolved around the famous drinks company’s attempt to relaunch the brand in 1985 with a brand new, improved taste ‘for a new generation,’ rather than stick to its market leading secret formula that it produced since its launch nearly 100 years before. It’s safe to say said new launch didn’t go down well with Coke drinkers.

According to Deadline, Wernick and Reese have used their own cash to option Thomas Oliver’s book The Real Coke, The Real Story, the property on which their screenplay will be based.

The announcement comes just days after the 30th anniversary of the disasterous marketing event.
