Karen Gillan Joins Brad Pitt’s ‘The Big Short’

Karen GillanFormer Doctor Who star and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY’s bald blue badass Karen Gillan has been cast in THE BIG SHORT, a drama about the American 2007-10 financial crisis produced by Brad Pitts’s Plan B Entertainment.

It appears to be a small role, but is another considerable step up the movie ladder for the increasingly popular actress. Further details aren’t known, but she revealed the news herself via Twitter:

Starring Pitt, Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Steve Carell and Melissa Leo, the film has been adapted from factual tome The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine by Michael Lewis. Plan B also brought Lewis’s sports chronicle MONEYBALL to the screen. Comedic helmer Adam McKay is writing and directing the project, which injects some fictional life into the source material. Filming is well underway in New Orleans.

Gillan recently won Best Female Newcomer at the Jameson Empire Awards and has just received gongs for two short films – Best Actress in Bound For Greatness and Best Short for writing/directing Coward, starring iZombie‘s Rose McIver – from the IFC and IFS Festivals respectively. Impressive stuff from an actress who it seems is full of surprises.
