Having braved a fearsome post-apocalyptic landscape for MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, you couldn’t blame Tom Hardy for wanting to lighten the mood. He’s been in mischievous mode for a recent interview, revealing his involvement in a certain something from the world of Detective Comics.
If you’re looking for more detail, well you’re not going to get it. However Hardy has done a great job of ramping up expectation as you’ll see from the quote below:
(It) contains elements of all kinds of stuff. From Ocean’s Eleven, to Batman, you can get all the wrappers out and it would be a big, really cool, Technicolor, Pulp Fiction… It’s a psychological f—fest… as if you would take Transmetropolitan (the cyberpunk range by Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson) and make it happen, but it’s not that out there it’s something which is much more real world. It could be like Heat, it could be f—ing awesome…
The brooding Brit was to have been part of the line up for David Ayer’s SUICIDE SQUAD from the same stable. While this didn’t come to pass, devourers of the company’s pulp spectacles will be excited to see him revisit its fledgling movie universe (he also got growly for Christopher Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES).
As for reference to Michael Mann’s crime masterpiece, DC had a brush with that via Nolan’s previous Bat chapter – HEAT was cited as a major visual influence. So if the project Hardy’s hinting at is anything like in the same league we could be in for a treat. Add to that his attention to detail when taking on a role and this may well be something special. He’s no slouch when it comes to his work, being as active on the writing and producing side as he is on performing. If he’s psyched, it’s with good reason.
Not content with stoking the embers of fanboy speculation, the actor went on to make no bones over the potential of the mysterious property:
It’s real estate, it’s prime real estate which is sitting there right under everybody’s nose that no one’s really thought about yet… I can’t believe that nobody has even – I know they thought of it but no one has actually blown life into it yet.
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen. Tom Hardy… movie star and major league tease!
