Andrea Riseborough To Face ‘The Crow’

tyneside-actress-andrea-riseborough-795165822-1349160The reboot of comic book movie franchise THE CROW just got a lot more interesting. As if the presence of Boardwalk Empire‘s Jack Huston as the title avenger wasn’t enough to thrill you, then how about the actress producers are pursuing as the villain? If they have their way, brilliant character actress Andrea Riseborough will take the role of crime lord and nemesis Top Dollar.

Brit Riseborough has built a reputation as a chameleonic talent over the years, with performances in BRIGHTON ROCK, SHADOW DANCER and MADE IN DAGENHAM as distinctive from each other as it’s possible to get. Should she agree to sign on, she’ll be playing a part last seen in the guise of Michael Wincott in the 1994 original. Seems screenwriter Claire Wilson and director Corin Hardy are reworking the material in more ways than one.

Based on James O’Barr’s graphic novel, the premise features rock star Eric Draven, who is resurrected from the dead as a spectral butt-kicker, seeking payback for the murder of him and his girlfriend at the hands of a brutal gang. Brandon Lee was Draven in the first film, though notoriously died in an accident on set.

Relativity Studios are feathering the black nest, with the Weinsteins among the executive producers.

Steve is a journalist and comedian who enjoys American movies of the 70s, Amicus horror compendiums, Doctor Who, Twin Peaks, Naomi Watts and sitting down. His short fiction has been published as part of the Iris Wildthyme range from Obverse Books.
