Watch the first eight minutes from Cameron Crowe’s ‘Aloha’

aloha-movie

The reviews for the latest Cameron Crowe movie Aloha have been less than favourable. Despite an excellent cast that includes Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone and Bill Murray, US critics have mauled the thing to pieces. Here’s a few quotes we’ve found this morning.

[quote_box_center]”[According to Crowe] the film has always been designed as a love letter to Hawaii. He may have set out to serve audiences a luau spread featuring a crispy roast pig, but the results taste more like Spam.: – TheWrap.[/quote_box_center]

[quote_box_center]”Aloha is a pale, predictable effort from Cameron Crowe, calling back to his previous feel-good flicks without covering new thematic ground” – We Got This Covered. [/quote_box_center]

[quote_box_center]”Aloha is an attractive luau of zero sustenance and immediate remorse, posturing as it looks to roast “the American pig,” never realizing that that’s exactly what it is. Just as any shirt you buy in Hawaii is a Hawaiian shirt, this is a Hawaiian movie. But Aloha is one trip to the islands that is no vacation.” TwitchFilm[/quote_box_center]

Deadline were a bit more positive:

[quote_box_center]Crowe’s “love letter to Hawaii” had me at hello.[/quote_box_center]

The film doesn’t actually open in the UK until September, but North American audiences can catch it this weekend, and in a somewhat interesting move, Sony have made the first eight minutes of the film available online, presumably to see if potential audiences bite with the taster.

Personally, I’m interested in the movie, more so after watching this, but then I am a huge fan of Crowe, and also Cooper.

Watch the first eight minutes from Aloha below. Tell us if you’ll be going to see it.
