Warner Bros. have debuted the opening scene from their upcoming film The Gallows. The film, which comes to the screen courtesy of Blumhouse Productions, gives an all new definition to the term Hangman, as this eerie home video shot clip shows.

Here’s a bit more about the film.

Twenty years after an accident caused the death of the lead actor during a high school play, students at the same small town school resurrect the failed stage production in a misguided attempt to honour the anniversary of the tragedy—but ultimately find out that some things are better left alone.

Cassidy Gifford, Ryan Shoos, Reese Mishler and Pfeifer Brown star in the film, which releases in the UK on July 17th, and the US a tad earlier on July 10th.

We’re actually liking the set-up for this. Jason Blum is the master producer behind the film, and of course you’ll know him for his credits on some of the best low-budget horror flicks of the last decade or so. We’re talking the Paranormal Activity movies, The Purge, Sinister and the Insidious movies. Blum also produced the very different, but multi award-winning Whiplash last year.

The Gallows is written and directed by Travis Cluff and Chris Lofing.
