Eli Roth is set to direct the adaptation of Steven Alten’s MEG, according to reports that have just surfaced over at Variety. The film is set up over at Warner Bros. and you’d think that with the recent success of Jurassic World and the public’s appetite for monster destruction, you’d think they’d kind of hurry this one up. Well, after years and years in devlopment, it looks like they are with the involvement of horror maestro Roth.

Dean Georgaris (Paycheck) is writing the screenplay for the film.

We found a detailed synopsis over at Amazon.

Years ago, on a top-secret dive seven miles down into the Mariana Trench, Jonas came face to face with an ancient monster everyone believed extinct. Having barely escaped with his life, Jonas must prove to the world that Meg still exists. When an opportunity to return to the trench presents itself, he takes it, intent on returning topside with a 7-inch tooth! But man s presence in this unexplored domain releases one of the sharks from its purgatory, and now Jonas is the only one who can stop it.

More news on MEG as we get it. Roth’s next movie is the Keanu Reeves home invasion horror Knock Knock and then The Green Inferno.
