Disney to honour George Lucas, Danny Elfman, and others at D23.

george-lucasDisney have become such a phenomenon that they can hold their own Comic Con these days. Of course Disney has always been huge, but there was a time when their name was synonymous with animated movies and catchy songs. Now they own Marvel and the Star Wars brands. Those last two properties alone are enough to assemble a mountain of geeks in convention halls to scream at news announcements.

This year Disney will be taking the opportunity to name some big names and important Disney employees as Disney legends. George Lucas seems to have jumped to the front of the queue, as his Star Wars creation looks set to bring Disney a few more billions into the bank. Elsewhere Tim Burton favourite, composer Danny Elfman also joins the legends having composed scores for the likes of Alice In WonderlandOz The Great And Powerful, and of course Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Other names include animator Andreas Deja, background artist Eyvind Earle, and the first ever Disneyland ambassador, Julie Reihm Casaletto.

Having skipped San Diego Comic Con, we can expect some big Marvel news from D23, as well as more from Star Wars and probably some tantalising stuff from upcoming Disney adaptations such as Beauty And The Beast, and maybe evn some Pixar teases with The Good Dinosaur.

D23 takes place in Anaheim from August 14-16

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
