Warner Bros. are making a Dungeons & Dragons movie

Following a near year-long lawsuit over ownership of rights, Warner Bros. have announced that they are bringing a new version of the Dungeons & Dragons gaming property to the big-screen.

“We are so excited about bringing the world of Dungeons & Dragons to life on the big screen,” said WB Pictures’ Creative Development and Worldwide Production boss Greg Silverman.

“This is far and away the most well-known brand in fantasy, which is the genre that drives the most passionate film followings. D&D has endless creative possibilities, giving our filmmakers immense opportunities to delight and thrill both fans and moviegoers new to the property.”

The property was previously made into a film back in 2000, a movie that starred Justin Whalin, Jeremy Irons and Zoe McLellan. It didn’t do very well critically or commercially, but the game is still incredibly popular.

Dungeons & Dragons is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game originally designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, and first published in 1974.

Roy Lee (The Lego Movie) will produce the new film, while Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis, and Courtney Solomon and Allan Zeman of Sweetpea Entertainment will produce for the studio. Solomon directed the 2000 version.
