Oh gosh, we’re reaching for the hankies right now. Word has reached us via Entertaiment Weekly that Nicholas Sparks‘ book The Notebook, which was turned into a gushy movie with Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, is being turned into a TV series over at the CW Network in the U.S.
Here’s what EW said:
“This series will follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship as they build their lives and their future together against the backdrop of the racial politics, economic inequities, and social mores of post-World War II of the late 1940s in North Carolina.”
Up for it? The 2004 movie was an absolute tear-jerker, and still manages to turn on the waterworks for this writer to this very day. Not ashamed at all.
Slight plot spoiler for the movie/ book ahead, which will be irrelevant to the new series, apparently:
“I don’t believe we’re going to see the older couple—what they become,” The CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills. “But things change [in development]. I’m thrilled Nick Sparks wanted to do it at The CW.”
Obviously referring to the Alzheimer’s plot device at the end of the movie (and book).
The proposed series will be developed by Nicholas Sparks Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
We’ll bring you more as we get it. Wanna see the trailer for the Gosling movie? Okay then…
