Joy movie poster; the film arrives in cinemas this Christmas
Things are looking up for Jennifer Lawrence, as the first Joy movie poster has just debuted for the actress’s latest movie. Joy, helmed by David O’Russell, who directed Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, also stars frequent collaborators in Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper.
Lawrence plays the title character of Joy Mangano, who invented the Miracle Mop, De Niro will play Joy’s father, while Bradley Cooper’s role is that of an HSN (Home Shopping Network) executive.
The movie follows a “family across four generations, centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Facing betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love, Joy becomes a true boss of family and enterprise in a world of unforgiving commerce. Allies become adversaries and adversaries become allies, both inside and outside the family, as Joy’s inner life and fierce imagination carry her through the storm she faces.”
“What’s it like to become a boss and the godmother of a family and dynasty, both emotionally and commercially? You go inside that person’s soul, and it’s alternately hilarious, horrifying, and sort of joyous,” Russell told EW in a recent interview.
The four collaborators in Lawrence, De Niro, Cooper and O’Russell certainly have a recipe for success in everything they’ve touched in their past few projects, and we have high hopes for this.
Joy is due in cinemas this Christmas in the United States, and the UK on the 1st January.
