And Then There Were None theatre review
Director: Joe Harmston Starring: Neil Stacey, Colin Buchanan, Mark Curry, Kezia Burrows
Synopsis: A group of 10 strangers are lured to a remote island off the coast of Devon. Upon arrival it is discovered that their host, an eccentric millionaire, is missing… Stranded on the island by a torrential storm and haunted by an ancient nursery rhyme, one by one the guests begin to die… With only the fallen believed to be innocent who amongst them is the killer?
Agatha Christie’s play is an intriguing, intense who-dunnit. A light-hearted house party is steadily transformed into a thriller of suspicion and disbelief. The location of the house on an island with no telephone or access to the mainland adds to the suspense and tension that remains throughout the whole production.
And Then There Were None review
This is not a typical murder mystery and keeps the audience guessing right until the very end. The play is full of unexpected twists as the characters divulge their previous histories, with their destiny determined by the poem Ten Little Soldiers. The cast is a well-balanced team who complement each other’s performances throughout.
This new 2015 touring production is slick and expertly executed. In spite of the well maintained intensity, flashes of humor were constantly present throughout. This is Agatha Christie at her best and an evening to be highly recommended to everyone who enjoys this genre of theatre.
