Ridley Scott is currently out in Toronto promoting the heck out of his next film The Martian, which has opened to some pretty decent reviews from the festival. While that film doesn’t open officially until the end of this month, Scott is already planning his next film, which has already been revealed to be Prometheus 2.
According to Deadline, Scott has said that film will officially go before the cameras in February of next year, which will definitely give it a 2017 release date.
Here’s the actual quote from their interview:
“Fassbender will do this one with me, and it’s meant to start production in February. I’m in prep, now. I’ll either shoot in Aussie, or here.”
So, yes, Fassbender will return as David in the sequel, which we guess will fill up his schedule as soon as he’s done on the Assassin’s Creed movie.
Scott also touched on the plot of the film.
“You can either say, leave the first film alone and jump ahead, but you can’t because it ends on too specific a plot sentence as she says, I want to go where they came from, I don’t want to go back to where I came from,” Scott added. “I thought the subtext of that film was a bit florid and grandiose, but it asks a good question: who created us?”
The legendary British director confirmed that they are currently in pre-production, with shooting expected to take place either in the UK, or Australia, which he mentioned above.
