Kristen Bell joining CHiPs movie opposite her real-life husband, Dax Shepard.
Kristen Bell joining CHiPs
It looks like this movie is going to be a right old family affair after news broke ofKristen Bell joining CHiPs, opposite husband Dax Shepard.
Shepard will write, direct and star in the film, which is based on the 1970s TV series of the same name. Michael Pena is also in the film, which is said to be have a Bad Boys/ Lethal Weapon kinda vibe to it – so, an action/ comedy then?
There’s no news as to who Bell will play in the film, but Shepard will play the role of Officer Jon Baker, who was played by Larry Wilcox in the original series, while Pena takes the role of Frank “Ponch” Poncherello, who was played by Erik Estrada in the show, which ran from 1977-1983.
The original cast of CHiPs
CHips revolved around the lives of two motorcycle police officers of the California Highway Patrol (or CHips), and featured a fairly healthy comedic streak, but was full of action set pieces too. The show was produced by MGM and was screened on the NBC network in the US. Over the six years that it was on the air, it featured 139 episodes and then even a reunion TV movie, which aired on October 27, 1998.
I remember the show from a very young age – it screened on the ITV network on a Saturday evening, but I’m not sure how a new version will play out. However, we said the same about the ‘Jump Street’ movies, and look how they turned out.
The news of Kristen Bell joining CHiPs is kind of positive, though their last collaboration, Hit and Run, failed to set the movie world on fire a couple of years back, though we kinda liked it.
Adam Brody, Rosa Salazar and Vincent D’Onofrio will also star in the new version with Shepard also producing. The project is set up at Warner Bros.
We’ll bring you more news as we get it. Thanks to The Wrap for the Bell casting news.
