Animated Ghostbusters movie being set-up at Sony; Ivan Reitman to produce.
An animated Ghostbusters movie is on the way from Sony Pictures Animation.
In quite a surprising move, Sony Pictures is planning to bring an animated Ghostbusters movie to screens in the future.
Variety just broke the news and have said that the project has been set-up with Ivan Reitman producing. Reitman, of course, directed the fantastic original film back in 1984.
The project is in its very early stages of development, and there is currently no script or indeed writer attached to write that script as yet, let alone a director or directors. Of course, Paul Feig has his Ghostbusters film starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones set for release next July.
It is not known if the two movies are linked in any way.
Of course, the Ghostbusters property has been taken down the animation route before. The Real Ghostsbusters first debuted in 1986, two years after the release of the original movie, and ran on TV until 1991. Created by Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, the show continued the adventures of Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Egon Spengler, Dr. Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, their secretary Janine Melnitz and their pet ghost Slimer.
The Lego Movie duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller are writing and directing an animated Spider-Man movie for Sony Pictures Animation, though we don’t know if that has a release date set as yet either. The duo is pretty stacked out with multiple projects on the go, including a Star Wars spin-off movie involving Han Solo. We aren’t suggesting that they’re involved with this though, however, wouldn’t they fit the mould quite nicely? After all, there has been discussion about a crossover between the Ghostbusters and their hilarious series of movies that started with 21 Jump Street.
That’s about all that we have currently on this apparent animated Ghostbusters movie, but we’ll bring you more news as we get it. For now, if you’d like to read more, head on over to Variety at the end of the link above.

for an seemingly supernatural investigation with the classic
big reveal at the end that was famous for every Scooby doo adventure
mystery an great idea hey why not since everything is being rebooted
