Following on from the huge success of the original, Hotel Transylvaia 2 has already done really quite well on general release in its domestic territory that a third movie in this popular animated series is sure to be already whetting the whistle of Sony executives.

Co-written and starring Adam Sandler, Hotel Transylvania 2 kicks off where the first movie left off. Now that young human Jonathan (Andy Samberg) has been accepted into the household of monsters that include Drac (Sandler), Frankenstein (Kevin James), werewolf Wayne (Steve Buscemi), invisible man Griffin (David Spade), and mummy Murray (Keegan-Michael Key), he is looking to take the next step with his new wife Mavis (Selena Gomez), and have a child. When half-human/ half-vampire Dennis is born, he fails to immediately show signs of becoming a vampire, much to the bemusement of his grandfather, so, Drac takes it upon himself to send daughter Mavis and son-in-law Jonathan off to his parents for a few days, to give them the opportunity to try to scare the fangs out of him, by putting him through monster boot camp with his mates. Things take a turn for the worse when Drac’s father Vlad (voiced by the legendary Mel Brooks) decides to pay them all a visit, and when he discovers that young Dennis isn’t a pure-blood, things take a turn for the much worse.

The Hotel Transylvania series are very much an Adam Sandler affair. Not only does he star and co-write the movies, he also produces them through his Happy Madison company, and his stamp is all over them. They very much are the comedy product of the Marmite-movie star who has enjoyed as many misses as hits over the past few years. While not up there in terms of the quality of product from the likes of Pixar or even Blue Sky, Hotel Transylvania 2 is by no means a bad movie.

The film is genuinely laugh-out-loud funny in places, and the script very witty. Director Genndy Tartakovsky, who also directed the first movie, brings a very unique style to the film, one that very much taps into a gap in the animated movie market that the kids clearly lap up. While some scenes are very unsuitable for the very young, Hotel Transylvania 2, like the first film, is perfectly harmless and has a great story at its core.

Hotel Transylvania 2 is released in UK cinemas on Friday 16th October, 2015. It is currently playing in cinemas across North America.
