Quentin Tarantino has revealed that he has cut together two different versions of his upcoming film The Hateful Eight. The filmmaker revealed that he will be taking the film on the road prior to its December release (Stateside).
Here’s how that version will differ from the theatrical cut which hits North American cinemas on Christmas Day.
“The roadshow version has an overture and an intermission, and it will be three hours, two minutes. The multiplex version is about six minutes shorter, not counting the intermission time, which is about 12 minutes.”
Wow, an intermission? The longer version is said to feature “big, long, cool, unblinking takes.” The Hateful Eight will be projected in 70mm, the format in which it was shot, and Tarantino has even had 50 cinemas in the US retro fitted with 70mm projectors with Anamorphic projection lenses.
The UK will have to wait a little while longer to see the film as it won’t be released there until January 8th.
Here’s a recap of the plot.
While racing toward the town of Red Rock in post-Civil War Wyoming, bounty hunter John “The Hangman” Ruth (Kurt Russell) and his fugitive prisoner (Jennifer Jason Leigh) encounter another bounty hunter (Samuel L. Jackson) and a man (Walton Goggins) who claims to be a sheriff. Hoping to find shelter from a blizzard, the group travels to a stagecoach stopover located on a mountain pass. After encountering four strangers, they may not make it to their destination.
