20th Century Fox have revealed plans to produce a new Die Hard movie – Die Hard 6 no less, which will be a prequel and sequel. Deadline report that the film will primarily be an origin story set in 1979, with most of the action being set in New York City seeing John McClane serving as a rookie cop.

Len Wiseman, director of Live Free Or Die Hard (Die Hard 4.0 in the UK), is developing the film over at 20th Century Fox, with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura coming aboard to produce. Bonaventura apparently has an existing script which they are looking to adapt into a Die Hard movie, very much like the studio did with Die Hard With A Vengeance.

As for Bruce Willis? Well, he has apparently been ‘kept in the loop’ through development, and will be involved in the new film, appearing as a modern-day McClane, along with a younger actor who will play his 1979 self. Wiseman will direct the film.

The Die Hard franchise is a huge one for Fox. The five movies have grossed over $1.4 billion around the world (not adjusted for inflation) over the years, with the first, defining movie being released in 1988.

So, the big question now is ‘who will play the young John McClane?’
