Fantastic Four returned to Marvel?
As most readers are probably aware, The Fantastic Four have had a chequered history with the big screen (to say the least). After one famously unreleased independent film, two lacklustre popcorn flicks, and now this years horrendously troubled turkey of a reboot…it might be time for Marvel’s first superhero family to return home. So have the Fantastic Four returned to Marvel?
Thankfully, that wish might have been granted! The internet was lit on fire at the beginning of this year when it was announced that Sony and Marvel had struck a deal to incorporate Spider-Man into their Cinematic Universe. Now, it seems that 20th Century Fox might have followed suit and allowed Marvel to reclaim yet another jewel on their ever-expanding crown.
Although, with Fox’s reboot earlier this year causing endless controversy and grossing a poultry $167 Million, it may be a long time before the Fantastic Four are ever considered a ‘jewel’ again. But, it seems that Fox have also gained something from this new deal. In exchange for the returned rights to the colourful superheroes, Marvel have reportedly allowed Fox to pursue two X-MEN-themed television show’s.
It’s been rumoured for quite some time that Fox were looking to expand their X-MEN universe to the small screen, with Marvel previously acting as the only force standing in their way. Now, the plan is to film pilots for both Legion and Hellfire (one based on Professor Xavier’s son and one based on the Hellfire Club).
Marvel Studios will reportedly release their first Fantastic Four film in one of the three mystery 2020 release dates announced last week. However, with the negative reputation and collective bad taste left in audiences mouths from this years Fantastic-flop, Marvel will have their work cut out to finally make the team work on the big screen. In fact, it would not be a surprise to see the characters folded into the MCU sooner rather than later. After all, Avengers: Infinity War part’s 1 and 2 would be a great opportunity to re-introduce the Fantastic Four to viewers in (what will hopefully be) the ultimate superhero movie experience.
The deal is also said to include the Silver Surfer, Galactus and Doctor Doom, which is music to the ears of this incredibly enthusiastic fan. Either way, the thought that Marvel have collected nearly every single character back under its roof is certainly a very exciting one. With that in mind, I doubt that many fellow comic book geeks could resist the idea of The Hulk vs. The Thing, Iron Man vs. Doctor Doom, or even The Avengers vs. Galactus (to name a few).
Overall, should this deal prove to be true then it’s definitely a good day to be a Marvel fan. There are precious few occasions in Hollywood where everybody gets to win, but dare I say that we may have just found one.
