The Royal Albert Hall in London are aceing it at the moment with their constant stream of film screenings, which are accompanied by a live orchestra. As well as the upcoming screenings of Frozen, Star Trek and The Godfather, the historic London venue will host showings of Raiders Of The Lost Ark and now Gladiator in 2016. Gladiator has already been shown at the RAH, all of the way back in 2014, but due to popular demand, it will return next May.
Here’s the official press release, along with details on how you can bag yourself some tickets (they are sure to sell out fast).
Maximus Decimus Meridius will have his vengeance again, accompanied by an on-stage orchestra, as Gladiator Live returns to the Royal Albert Hall next year, due to staggering popular demand.
Ridley Scott’s legendary swords-and-sandals epic is coming back to the iconic London venue – its auditorium famously based on a Roman amphitheatre – following four incredible, sold-out shows in 2014.
The event will see Gladiator screened in high definition on a 20m screen, as Hans Zimmer’s stirring score is played live by one of the world’s leading concert orchestras.
Lucy Noble, Director of Events at the Royal Albert Hall, said: “We’re delighted to welcome back Gladiator Live, a concert experience like no other. Audiences gave a resounding ‘thumbs up’ to this stunning show in 2013 and we’ve been asked countless times when we’re going to bring it back.
“This is the perfect place to enjoy Ridley Scott’s epic vision of ancient Rome: the Hall’s distinctive design was based on Roman amphitheatres, and where better to appreciate Hans Zimmer’s rousing, unforgettable score?”
Gladiator, starring Russell Crowe as a vengeful former general doing vivid battle with a corrupt emperor’s son, is one of the most acclaimed films of recent years, winning five Oscars including Best Picture, as Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard’s memorable music scooped Best Original Score at the Golden Globes.
Also starring Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Derek Jacobi, Richard Harris and Oliver Reed in his last screen appearance, it has been praised for its superb characterisation, thrilling storyline and viscerally exciting action sequences, as well as Hans Zimmer’s memorable music.
Zimmer, who appeared at the Royal Albert Hall for the world premiere of Interstellar Live earlier this year, is one of the most popular and respected film score composers working today, writing the music for The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean, Sherlock Holmes, Inception and Man of Steel.
Gladiator Live comes to the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday 25 May and Thursday 26 May 2016. Tickets, priced from £33.10, are available at www.royalalberthall.com.
