Elizabeth Banks to return as Pitch Perfect 3 director

Pitch Perfect 3 director: Elizabeth Banks to return to helm the third film in the hugely successful Universal franchise.

Pitch Perfect 3 director Elizabeth Banks

Elizabeth Banks will return to direct Pitch Perfect 3 for Universal Pictures. Banks, who made her directorial debut with this year’s Pitch Perfect 2, will position herself as the Pitch Perfect 3 director, though it’s not known if she will star in the movie as commentator Gail (though the IMDB does list her as returning to that role too). The news of her returning to the director’s chair was confirmed earlier by Variety.

Anna Kendrick, Britanny Snow and Rebel Wilson have been confirmed to return to complete the trilogy. Pitch Perfect 2 also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Anna Camp, Alexis Knapp, Adam DeVine, Katey Sagal, Ester Dean, Kelley Jakle and Hana Mae Lee, though it is not known if they will return as yet.

The first film in the series saw the Pitches take on the National accapella title, while this year’s Pitch Perfect saw the action relocate to Europe. Who knows where the next film will take us, but original writer Kay Cannon is writing the screenplay for the picture.

Here’s the plot of the last movie:

It’s been three years since the Barden Bellas (Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson) became the first all-female group to win a national title. All seems well until a botched Lincoln Center performance for the president leads to a scandal that strips them of their performing duties, causing internal tension and strife. With the world championships on the horizon in Copenhagen, Denmark, the women must get their act together for their one and only shot at redemption.

Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment and Max Handelman & Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions will produce Pitch Perfect 3, which will arrive in on July 21, 2017.

So what do we think of Elizabeth Banks’ return as Pitch Perfect 3 director? Thoughts?
