Call Of Duty movie on the cards: Activision Blizzard launch movie studio to develop films based on their video games titles.
Call of Duty movie could be on the cards at Activision Blizzard Studios
Call Of Duty is the latest in a long line of video games set to be adapted into a motion picture (Assassin’s Creed and Warcraft are the next two set to hit in 2016). A Call Of Duty movie is on the way with more films planned should it be successful.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Activision Blizzard, who own the massive Call Of Duty franchise, is launching a studio to create movies. The firm will be named Activision Blizzard Studios and will be headed up by the guys that oversaw Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel’s acquisition into Disney, Nick van Dyk.
“Our most important asset as a company is our audience, and in order to ensure that our audiences is always appropriately entertained at the level of excellence that we’ve come to be known for, we have to ensure that anything that relates to any of the company’s franchises is produced or developed with the same commitment to excellence that we have,” said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick to THR. “And the only way we could see ensuring that that would happen would be to do it ourselves.”
The first project at Activision Blizzard Studios is a TV series based on their property Skylanders, which revolves around magic and floating islands. The series boasts an impressive vocal cast, including Justin Long, Ashley Tisdale, Jonathan Banks and Norm Macdonald.
The word is that a series of COD movies will be on the cards with the first Call Of Duty movie planned for either 2018 or 2019. The franchise is a massive one for the games company. It’s last release, Call Of Duty: Black Ops III, which only came out last week, which has already sold in the millions around the world. The entire video game franchise has sold over $6 billion since its conception. With the high production values and stories set within the COD games, we’re sure to be in with a treat with a potential Call Of Duty movie.
