Val Kilmer was famously the Ice Man in the original 1986 Tony Scott movie Top Gun, and now via his official Facebook page, the actor has revealed that he will reprise the role in the sequel opposite Tom Cruise.

Top Gun 2‘s script is written by Christopher McQuarrie, Peter Craig, Ashley Miller, and Zack Stentz with the movie once again seeing Tom Cruise in the role that pretty much made his name as the poster boy of the 1980s, Maverick.
Now, let’s be clear, despite some reports saying that Top Gun 2 will be directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and star Gene Hackman, this obviously isn’t the case. Kilmer is just stating on which occasions you say ‘yes’ without reading a script.
Jerry Bruckheimer will produce though, and it looks like production could get going in 2016, the 30th anniversary of the release of the original movie.
