Jennifer Lawrence to make feature directing debut

Jennifer Lawrence American Hustle

Jennifer Lawrence has revealed to Entertainment Weekly that she will make her directorial debut in the near future with a film called Project Delirium.

The actress, who is currently appearing in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, and then the upcoming Joy, spoke with EW of her want to direct, which apparently goes back to when she was 16.

“I’ve signed on to direct something called Project Delirium — it’s based on this article about mental warfare in the ’60s, like an acid experiment gone terribly wrong.”

“It’s funny, I’ve wanted to direct since I was 16 and always thought I should start making steps towards that,” Lawrence says. “If I had tried to do it earlier, I wouldn’t have been ready. Now I actually feel ready.”

The article is actually up on the New Yorker, which you can read over here. Here’s a segment of it that sets the scene.

Colonel James S. Ketchum dreamed of war without killing. He joined the Army in 1956 and left it in 1976, and in that time he did not fight in Vietnam; he did not invade the Bay of Pigs; he did not guard Western Europe with tanks, or help build nuclear launch sites beneath the Arctic ice. Instead, he became the military’s leading expert in a secret Cold War experiment: to fight enemies with clouds of psychochemicals that temporarily incapacitate the mind—causing, in the words of one ranking officer, a “selective malfunctioning of the human machine.”

No word on when this project will happen, but the actress has quite the upcoming slate. Besides the aforementioned movies, Lawrence has Passengers in which she’ll star opposite Chris Pratt, and a Steven Spielberg project called It’s What I Do.
