J.J. Abrams has revealed that he held a Star Wars Disney screening of an near-completed version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the head honchos over at the studio. Chatting to Howard Stern, Abrams revealed that playing the film before Alan Horn, Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, was one of the most nervous experiences of his life.

“We showed the first cut — which was still incomplete, a complete version of the movie but not the finished version — and we showed it to Alan Horn, Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, the three people at Disney who sat with me in the theater, and we screened the movie. And it was horrifying. I’m nervous beyond words, I’m showing this movie that is so far from finished, there’s not an effect in it … It was a lot of me giving excuses before the screening.”

Their responses at the Star Wars Disney screening were positive, with Abrams describing the aftermath of the screening to be “the biggest relief of my life,” and that “their response was so kind, [I thought] they were just being nice.”

In additional Star Wars news, the final running-time of the film has been revealed to be 136 minutes, the same as The Phantom Menace, which I’m sure is just a coincidence.

For the record, A New Hope was 121 minutes long, The Empire Strikes Back ran for 124 minutes, Return Of The Jedi 131 minutes, Attack Of The Clones the longest at 142 minutes, and Revenge Of The Sith ran for 140 minutes.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will enter cinemas in the US on December 18th and the UK on December 17th. The release date for the Chinese market has also just been revealed by Deadline as being the 9th January, 2016.

John Hsu, General Manager, Studio at the Walt Disney Company, China said:

“We are thrilled to bring Star Wars: The Force Awakens to China on January 9,”

“We’re excited to be rolling out our marketing campaign and to connect with new fans in China through Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Here’s their new poster ahead of the release.
