20 films shortlisted for Best VFX Oscar

The 85th Academy Awards® will air live on Oscar® Sunday, February 24, 2013.

The list of the films up for the Best Visual Effects award at next year’s Academy Awards has been whittled down to just 20 potentials. There aren’t too many surprises in there, with the likes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ant-Man, Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Mad Max: Fury Road all getting a nod.

These will be taken down to just ten later this month before the five remaining nominees are announced in January with the other contenders.

The full nominations will be announced on the morning of Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 5:30 a.m. PT at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The 88th Oscars® will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood.

Keep it THN for all of the coverage.
