Desierto trailer: Jonás Cuarón’s cat-and-mouse thriller hits screens in thge U.S. from March, 2016.

The first Desierto trailer has arrived. Desierto is the thrilling new action/ drama from director Jonás Cuarón, son of Gravity director Alfonso Cuarón, and is a simple, though very effective cat and mouse movie set completely in the desert. Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays a trigger-happy vigilante intend on hunting down a group of Mexican immigrants and picking them off one by one.
We caught the film at this year’s London Film Festival and gave it quite a positive review. US audiences will be able to see from March, 2016.
Here’s the official synopsis:
From Jonás Cuarón and Alfonso Cuarón, the acclaimed filmmakers of Gravity, comes a unique, modern vision of terror. Desierto is a visceral, heart-pounding suspense-thriller packed with tension and suspense from start to finish, starring Gael García Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries and Y Tu Mamá También) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen). What begins as a hopeful journey to seek a better life becomes a harrowing and primal fight for survival when a deranged, rifle-toting vigilante chases a group of unarmed men and women through the treacherous U.S.-Mexican border. In the harsh, unforgiving desert terrain, the odds are stacked firmly against them as they continuously discover there’s nowhere to hide from the unrelenting, merciless killer.
As we said above, we saw the film back in October. Here’s a little of what we thought of it.
Cuarón and Mateo Garcia‘s tight script is very heavy on the action and thrill factor, and light on the political questions that could have been raised (see the recent accompanying, and much deeper piece Cartel Land). Cuarón’s direction is solid, and the action so gripping and so tense that you’ll be shifting around in your seat as the film progresses; the tension hightend as the dramatic finale approaches.
Certainly a film that is less taxing on the brain than other films that have tackled the immigration issues that the US faces every day, but with a great turn by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and some great ideas from a well-paced, tight screenplay, Desierto is a great chase flick that certainly delivers the goods.
