Some big cinema chains in the UK are not screening Tarantino’s ‘The Hateful Eight’

New Hateful Eight posters

News reaches us this afternoon that some pretty major cinema chains in the UK will not be screening Quentin Tarantino‘s The Hateful Eight from this Friday, its official release date. One such chain, Cineworld, is the second biggest cinema chain in Europe, and today it removed all trace of The Hateful Eight from its website.

“Sadly we haven’t been able to come to an agreement with the distributor which means it won’t be shown at Cineworld,” the chain stated to a user over on Twitter (see below).

We are actually quite baffled by the news after it was revealed that the film will not be shown in Picturehouse Cinemas either, as Cineworld owns that chain too. Curzon, who is seperately owned, will also not screen the film from Friday.

In a statement to Digital Spy, a spokesperson said: “We can confirm that The Hateful Eight will not be shown at our cinemas. Unfortunately we were not able to reach an agreement with the movie’s distributor. We make every effort to show a wide variety of movies and we’re very excited about other releases in January including Joy and The Danish Girl.”

Curzon tweeted the following: “We love a Quentin Tarantino movie but it is with great regret that we will not be showing The Hateful Eight from Friday 8 January. On this occasion, the distributor has chosen to screen the film only in 70mm in the West End and in selected venues nationwide.”

More on this as we get it.
