We all got an unexpected surprise this week with the launch of a new trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane from Bad Robot, and people have instantly supposed this is a big follow up to 2008’s wonderful Cloverfield but… is it really?
J.J. Abrams Bad Robot are synonymous with secrets and anyone who knows J.J. will be very aware of his Mystery Box love so have we all been cleverly played already? The rumours say this isn’t a sequel at all and is, in fact, just a smart marketing move with the use of the word Cloverfield. But I’ll be honest here, I don’t think I care either way and the fact there’s so much secrecy makes me even more intrigued and eager to avoid spoilers before it opens. We’re living in a time of film where you can almost watch everything before it comes out and surely it’s more fun to just wait and see? The debate will remain open.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, it’s written by Josh Campbell, Matthew Stuecken and Whiplash director/writer Damien Chazelle. It stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr. Below is a very Super 8 (one of my absolute favourites from Bad Robot) and your official synopsis:
Waking up from a car accident, a young woman finds herself in the basement of a man who says he’s saved her life from a chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable.
10 Cloverfield Lane opens in the Americas on March 10 and 11, with UK dates to be confirmed – Please make it come soon!
