Filming has officially wrapped on the Assassin’s Creed movie. The film, which is due in cinemas later in the year, is based on the video game series of the same name, and will be led by Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.

Fassbender has been speaking to The Wall Street Journal about the film, and it all sounds really quite positive.

“It was great”, he said. “It was a huge learning experience. To be a producer on it as well was very educational. I think we’ve got something special. I think we’ve done something original in this genre”.

Fassbender also spoke of his character in the film, the central role of Callum Lynch.

“He is an outsider. He’s been institutionalized from his early teens. He’s a little bit of a lost soul of sorts. He starts to identify [his] lineage and where he comes from in a way.”

The film is going up against Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story at the end of the year as it is released on December 21st. Justin Kurzel (Macbeth) directs.

Fassbender is currently shooting the adaptation of Jo Nesbo’s The Snowman in Norway, and is nominated for Best Actor at next month’s Academy Awards for his portrayal of Steve Jobs.
