New X-Files series will run from January

Chris Carter, creator of the hit TV series The X-Files, which briefly returns to television screens later this month, has revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he has written a screenplay for a third movie.

“I actually wrote a third movie, just because I was interested in the idea of where that might go,” said Carter, who then thought of repurposing the script for the series. “I let my wife read the third movie, and she said, ‘I think not for television.’

With interest building in the new series, which hits the Fox network in the US on January 24th and on Channel 5 in February, a third movie could possibly happen if the interest is still there. The trade says that Carter may be more interested in building the brand again for television.

“I’m waiting for Fox to come back and ask for more,” said Carter. “Then we’ll talk about it.”

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return to roles of Mulder and Scully for the limited six-episode run. Watch the trailer for the new show below.

Thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES is a thrilling, six-episode event series from creator/executive producer Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY. Mitch Pileggi also returns as FBI ASST. DIR. WALTER SKINNER, Mulder and Scully’s boss, who walks a fine line between loyalty to these investigators and accountability to his superiors. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.
