Dwayne Johnson in Rampage: Summer shoot planned as The Rock reveals his 2016 schedule.
We all knew that Hollywood had cast Dwayne Johnson in Rampage, the video game adaption from director Brad Peyton and writer Carlton Cuse, the collaborators that brought us one of 2015’s biggest hits San Andreas. What we didn’t know is that the film will shoot this summer!
Johnson provided us with an update via Instagram earlier today. Here’s what he had to say:
Cool news we just hired Carlton Cuse & Ryan Condal (creators of COLONY) to write our big screen adaptation of RAMPAGE for New Line. Carlton also wrote SAN ANDREAS for us, so he excels at writing big scale with family and heart as the anchor. We have a shot to raise the bar and make something cool with this one as the basic storyline is three mutated gigantic monsters (Silverback, Alligator and Wolf) destroy major cities and landmarks across the US. This summer I’ll spend time at the San Diego Wildlife Preserve as well as with Anti-Poaching Units from Africa for my research. If you were a fan of the video game like I was, then you KNOW how bad ass and fun this movie can be. I’ll try not to screw it up ????. Shooting begins late this summer.
Dwayne Johnson in Rampage? Three gigantic monsters? We’re in.
The original 1986 arcade game from Bally Midway saw players take control of gigantic monsters trying to survive against onslaughts of military forces. Each round is completed when a particular city is completely reduced to rubble. Here’s his original update.
Johnson also revealed that he has about 4 weeks left of shooting left on season two of his NFL series Ballers. He will then go straight into shooting the Baywatch movie the following day, and then head to shoot Fast 8, which is already set for a summer 2017 release. He’ll shoot that for 12-14 weeks (which pretty much confirms that we’ll see a lot of Hobbs in the eighth Fast and Furious movie), and then we’ll see Dwayne Johnson in Rampage. The big one, as he says in this post on social media.
Before we start shooting I’ll spend time at the San Diego Wildlife Preserve as well with Anti-Poaching Units out of Africa. As big and fun as this movie is, the key is grounding it in research and authenticity. The entire team that brought you San Andreas is back and we can’t wait to get started on this one. King Kong is just a little monkey compared to what these massive RAMPAGING ANIMALS can do.
Sounds like he’s got a great year in store. We’ll next see him in the comedy Central Intelligence opposite Kevin Hart, which releases later this year.
